Vehicles in Germany's Town Found Smeared with Nazi Symbols in Blood, Law Enforcement Confirm

Authorities reported they were alerted by a resident who discovered a vehicle in Hanau marked with red-colored substance

Around fifty automobiles have been marked with what seems to be blood from a person in the Germany's municipality of Hanau close to Frankfurt, police confirm law enforcement.

Automobiles, exterior walls and mailboxes were marked, sometimes with Nazi symbols, they announced in a official communication.

Officers say they were alerted during the night on Wednesday, when a resident observed that a vehicle in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been smeared with a red-colored liquid.

The substance had been drawn in the pattern of a banned symbol, they added.

Law enforcement then found multiple other marked cars and residential walls in the nearby vicinity.

Swastikas are illegal in Germany under laws prohibiting the visible presentation of symbols from the Nazi era.

Officials say initial examinations indicate the liquid was most likely blood from a person.

"Currently there is no lead as to its source; officials are currently not aware of any physical harm in connection with the incident," they commented.

Local authorities stated they were attempting "to solve the case" and have requested to the public for information.

An important official stated the attack rendered him speechless and required to be solved rapidly.

"This event strikes at the core of Hanau and reopens the pain of the far-right terrorist attack five years ago," he posted on online, referring to the killing of nine victims by a shooter focusing on individuals of migrant background in five years prior.
