Edwards and Gary O'Neil represent the initial names under consideration to succeed the former manager as head coach of Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Pereira was dismissed on Sunday following the squad's 10-match without a victory start to the Premier League campaign.

And Edwards and O'Neil - each of whom have previous associations to the team - are part of the options to be considered by the Wolves leadership.

The manager is currently at another club, which would pose a possible hurdle to his hiring at Molineux.

However the ex- Luton head coach - who made over a century of appearances for Wolves during his time as a player - is said to be a leading contender for the position.

The 42-year-old is reportedly enjoys support from the club board as they start the process of appointing a new manager.

O'Neil is also emerging as a unexpected contender, although he would be a shock appointment considering he was released by Wolves in December last year.

The ex- West Ham player is out of work which means the club would not need to pay any compensation.
